About Us
Hillel is a perfect addition to the Marist Community because Marist has a diverse student body and Hillel helps to celebrate this diversity. Marist College also emphasizes strong connections to the community, which is strongly emphasized in Jewish culture, on which this club is based.
We would get the Marist community involved by doing events that could be enjoyed by students of all different faiths and cultures and by being totally inclusive to all students regardless of their own personal cultural background. We plan on being able to host events with other cultural groups on campus as well as involving the community of the Hudson valley by reaching out to the local Jewish Community Center as well as the Vassar Chabad house to create strong community ties.
****This club was not founded as a religious club or a political club and therefore is completely different from the religious Jewish Student Group under Campus Ministry. The Club being proposed is by no means meant to be religious. This club will act in the same capacity that clubs like BSU, LGSA, Italian American Society, and Asian Alliance act in for their communities. It is a cultural outlet for all denominations of Jewish (and non-Jewish) people can come together to celebrate their similarities and uphold the core cultural values of Judaism through community outreach and inclusive social construct. Judaism is a very diverse religion with many different branches, each with different religious practices. By leaving the religious aspect out of this club we are allowing for a more inclusive environment, not just for Jewish students of varying religious backgrounds, but also for non-Jewish students that wish to learn more about Jewish culture or want to become part of an involved and caring community.****
